Go Cards!

Here are our dear, little cardinal fans. The whole family was decked out in red and black to cheer the cardinals to victory over the wildcats - it barely worked. We were hosted by Uncle Scott, Aunt Kathy and their monkeys and were served some homemade hot wings and seafood etouffee. Maureen watched Tom and Jerry on the computer while Rowan slept, ate and cried. I'm sure they will become interested in the game as they grow, maybe. The highlight was a well crafted cheer, performed by Cousin A, Maureen and Kristin. I've never heard "Go Cards" delivered with such enthusiasm.

Glad to see you're back, and happy new year!

Excellent trip report re: Target. It reminds me that I need to return something to Trader Joe's. I bought a bottle of cream sherry, but I need dry sherry.

(I'm going to make French onion soup, as I made a batch of beef stock over the weekend. I had some leftover bones from a standing rib roast I made for Christmas. Also, I have to get some proper crocks for the soup. And some bread to cut up and support the cheese on top. Should I add some fresh thyme to it? I haven't done that in the past, but I saw it in a recipe.)

Sounds yummy. You can't go wrong with thyme, just remember a little goes a long way. I made some really good chicken noodle soup and threw in a pinch of thyme (saves nine?) - It made all the difference in the world.
And don't get me started on Scott's etuffee last night. I'm not sure if he used thyme or not, but I wouldn't rule it out.

Was the etoufee served in an eggplant that had been cut in half, hollowed out, floured and then deep fried? That would be a hell of a thing.

He could add some ground thyme to the flour.

Speaking of Target, Paul and I saw a man returning a Christmas tree on January 3rd! Doesn't that beat all. (I know Kathy took some Christmas ornaments back after Christmas---but they were still in the unopened box). Scott's etoufee was delicious. Chad, when are we going to get to taste your French onion soup??? Karen

Have you ever seen the deep fried eggplant bowl, or did you make that up? And if you made it up, how would Scott know to do it? So many questions.

I heard there was one non-UL fan ...

I have seen the eggplant bowl. A restaurant I worked at in Ohio used to have a cajunfest every February, and that was a dish they prepared. But I think they got the idea from a trip to New Orleans, so it didn't originate with them, either.

The French onion soup should be made this Sunday. Stop on by for a treat!!
